Contents
Soya oil 100 g, medium-chain triglycerides 100 g. Energy: 2,000 kCal
Indications/Uses
As source of cal & essential fatty acids for patients requiring parenteral nutrition.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1-2 g/kg/day IV infusion to provide 60% of daily non-protein cal. 70 kg patient Max infusion rate: 0.25-0.5 mL/kg/hr during 1st 15 min, then may be increased to 1 mL/kg/hr if no adverse effect were observed.
Contraindications
Fat metabolism disturbances eg, pathologic hyperlipemia, lipid nephrosis & acute pancreatitis associated w/ hyperlipemia; severe egg allergies.
Special Precautions
Pulmonary disease, sepsis, diseases of the reticuloendothelial system, renal insufficiency, anemia or blood coagulation disorders, or when there is danger of fat embolism. Severe liver damage. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Acute: Dyspnea, cyanosis, allergic reactions, hyperlipemia, hypercoagulability, nausea, vomiting, headache, flushing, hyperthermia, sweating, chills, sleepiness, chest & back pain. Delayed reactions: Hepatomegaly, jaundice due to central lobular cholestasis, splenomegaly, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, transient increases in LFTs & overloading syndrome.
